The next day Hershey's 's wholly-owned Artisan Confections Co subsidiary announced that they were closing both the Scharffen Berger factory in Berkeley AND the Joseph Schmidt plant in San Francisco, relocating both manufacturing options to a factory in Illinois.
This is clearly a cost-cutting measure so it remains to be seen how Artisan Confections Co is going to keep their promise to continue their commitment to quality in the face of pressure to increase margins.
