Quick update:

A women's shelter sent a very nice card that arrived yesterday, thanking Support1000 for a donation of bras that'll help their 14 residents. They mentioned the self-esteem that comes with a good bra--in addition to the basic functionality.

Yesterday I had a fantastic conversation with someone who suggested that I bite the bullet and file for my own 501c3 status--as opposed to finding a fiscal sponsor. Next week, I'm going to take a deep breaqth and begin that process so that Support1000 will have non-profit status. With that, people will be able to donate and get a tax write-off.

This weekend I begin training on building and leading teams. That's really going to help Support1000 explode beyond what 1 person has been able to do.

WOW! With 501c3 staus and effective leadership, many many more women and organizations will be supported.

So far: 1236 bras have been donated.

Hallelujah! 100 bras were packed this morning and took their first step toward Mali! Thanks, Joanna, this is exciting.

Joanna and I had a powerful conversation this morning. I pondered, "when people need training and jobs and housing, where does something like a bra rank among their needs?" Joanna helped me see that it's not an either-or conversation.

Thus, the donation of a bra, a dozen pens, a child's toy, or dishes ... they at least free a person's mind up so they can focus on something other than the need for a bra, etc.

My question wasn't one of doubting Support1000's purpose. I was looking at the wide range of things that people need, and wanted another person's take on that question. A brand new world opened!

This is so much bigger than bras. There's relatedness and humanity being created.

50 bras are heading to a seminary today. The seminary students are helping a shelter here in Chicago and I'm excited to have Support1000 support the students.

The goal of 200 bras hasn't been met. With these 50, a total 180 will have gone out. However, I'm still in communication with one other person and we've just got to get our schedules lined up.

I left you a package at the center on Saturday....did you get it?

Update: looks like 200 bras won't go out the door by the end of today but definitely by Monday night. Tonight I'm packing 50 to send to Springfiled, IL. Bras are being picked up tomorrow, and other conversations are going on.

Bottom line: Support1000 is in motion! Thank you all.

Good news!

More bras were donated last night. We just arranged to send 20 out to Lake County, IL.

Do you have a personal connection with a social worker, guidance counselor, shelter staff, etc? You don't need to be in the Chicago area. It'd be awesome to make a donation in Texas, Ohio, Indiana, etc.

There are women who are waiting for these bras but, they don't know that the bras are in my basement. :-)

No bras have gone out the door yet but we're starting to get in motion with great possibilities and conversations.

Send more requests! These bras aren't very useful in my storage area. :-)
