As Cardinal Ratzinger, he did not invite engagement. As Pope, the recent outreach to a Bishop with Holocaust-denying views without adequate research was more than unfortunate. I believe that the impact of that will color the perception of his comments for some time to come. While I do agree with the faults of the condom program and its practicality, I personally would like to see a discussion on tweaked it rather than scrapping it.
