Carolina Towns and Trails was recently featured on WYFF's (Greenville, SC) Sound Off South segment of the morning news. To see clips of my interview with anchor Kelly Coakley, go to my blog and click on the INTERVIEW label.

A bit of neat news. We recently traveled to Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park and once there, were invited to attend a groundbreaking for a new attraction. I posted a blog report on the event, of course, but to my surprise, the director of the NC Zoo somehow found my post and mentioned it on his blog! You can read about it here:

We traveled to the northern part of the Outer Banks this past weekend in the hopes of visiting Currituck National Wildlife Refuge. The only way in is by driving along the beach, and at low season, we opted not to try it lest we get stuck in the sand.

However, we found plenty of other outdoor activities to keep us occupied. Hotel rates are low this time of year, so consider the Outer Banks for a quick getaway.

We traveled to Lake Mattamuskeet yesterday to see if migrating swans, ducks, and geese had begun filtering in. They have, though it's far from the thousand or so that live there in the winter. I'll post a report of our trip on the blog soon.

What outdoor destination in the Carolinas have you visited lately?

I'm back from the mountains and my word, the leaves are gorgeous! Apple, pumpkin, and candy corn yellow foliage shone throughout the little town of Todd, NC. It took my breath away.

I'm sure I saw the leaves at their peak, so if you can, get to the mountains soon. You don't want to miss this!

The mountains have exploded with a brilliant array of fall colors, according to fellow CarolinasAdventures hiking group members. I'm heading to the High Country today, and am hoping colors aren't past peak there. For an updated report on Asheville's colors, go to http://www.exploreasheville.com/what-to-do/seasonal-fun/fall-color-in-the-asheville-area/fall-color-report--suggested-drives/index.aspx

(Sorry, I tried to paste that into a tinyurl address, but Facebook refused to accept it.)

Fall festivals are underway, and a variety of Haunted Tours are beginning. I posted links for event calenders on the blog to help you find them. As I mentioned in the post, the list is far from complete, and I haven't started on South Carolina's calenders yet, but I did try to include cities in both the mountain area and the coastal plains. Hang on, Piedmonters. You're next.

If you're looking for something to do in NC this October, check it out. I'll continue to update the links throughout the week to give you more choices. If you have an upcoming event that sounds interesting, let us know about it!

Thanks! I wish we could visit every outdoor destination in the Carolinas, but there's too much to see and do.
