Description:Connie Ogle’s mother swears she began reading books in her crib at the ripe age of 6 months. She’s been working at The Miami Herald since the Palm Beach bureau had a bar in the lobby (let’s just call it the late ‘80s) and has been The Herald’s Book Editor since 2001. In between writing book and movie reviews, she reads everything from Entertainment Weekly to Faulkner and loves Martin Amis almost as much as she loves Clive Owen.

I cannot fall asleep without reading. I need to have at least 3 books around at a time because it's like a security blanket. My mind cannot be idle..Btw, Connie, love this space.

never such a thing as reading too much! I usually have 3 books going at once. Last night I woke up at 2:30 and read 'til 4:30, just because I could! I love Sundays.

Nancy, did you get in trouble for reading at the table? I did. I used to get up early to eat breakfast before everyone else.

Every now and then my mother would suggest that I take my books outside and read so I could get some fresh air and the neighbors wouldn't think I was chained in the attic. Everyone in my family read. "JUst let me finish this page'' was a constant.

The only thing my parents ever warned me about re: reading was: For the love of God, you're 12 years old, we're OK with YOU reading "The Exorcist" but stop lending it out to your friends because we're sick of their moms calling us up and raising hell."

Connie, my mother warned me that reading too much might drive me crazy, like a dotty old granduncle or some such. Fortunately, she was right. Still reading, and crazier than ever.
