Description:It's growing in your kitchen... Bag Monsters feature 500 bags; the average number of plastic bags an American uses yearly. Bag Monsters deny their plastic bags harm the planet and they're mobilizing to “mock” reusable bags. These clueless critters are behind the times and their single-use bags are going out of style like leisure suits. Still feeding bags to the freeloading Bag Monster under your sink? Maybe it’s time for a reusable ChicoBag.

The "Bag Monsters" I saw in the Green Fest this weekend were awesome! That really gave people deep impression and strong reminders of reducing using plastic bags! Great job, Jake! :)

Katie: Search for burlap sacks (or any other fabric), used plastic bags, etc that are headed for the waste stream and use them for the beach clean-ups. Reach out to farmers and others who would use large bags in their business.

The burlap/fabric bags will require more volunteer time for emptying the contents and later for washing them - BUT they can be reused for years. Most likely available from farmers.

The main advantage of the diverted plastic bags is that they are free - and enable you to avoid giving money to the plastic industry. Of course, they may still reach the landfill, but that's why the fabric bags are the better option!

Let me know if this has been helpful, and if there's anything else I can do. Keep up the good work!

Hello Bag Monster and friends!
I'm helping to organize a beach clean-up in Hawaii, and we always use those big plastic garbage bags to collect all the trash we find. I know that biodegradable bags are available, but A. they are kinda flimsy and B. I just found out that in most landfills, biobags will off-gas methane as they degrade. Hilo landfill doesn't have a methane recovery program and I hate to add more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Any suggestions?
