I am currently helping to organize a benefit evening and booklet launch on behalf of ‘Desperately Seeking Alex’ , a support group for the family and friends of Alex Humphrey, a 29 year old man who vanished without trace in August this year during a visit to Panama. Alex was (is) a terrific performance poet, and with other fellow performers who have been lucky enough to share the stage with him in the past, I’m helping to organize events to raise awareness and help Alex’s family, who have pushed themselves into debt having to travel to Panama to assist in the investigations there. The show is most likely going to take place in the early new year.

Medical tests results from the Doctor

Checking my blood pressure recently out of the blue because I'm 47, my GP found my blood pressure running high - blood tests revealed that I am not diabetic, have no cholesterol problems, or serious liver complaints. My chances of a heart attack are just 11% The one anomaly he found was something called Gilbert's syndrome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert's_syndrome which is so insignificant my doctor himself assured me that it doesn't need treating - Rather saddened that years of alcohol abuse hasn't done more to my liver than that - must try harder

I’ve got some voluntary work that I can add to my CV and tell the DSS about – I’m helping out at the Not Part Of Festival from tomorrow to the 18th of July – mostly giving out flyers, helping to run their box office stall, (at the AMC building near the cinema box office) Most of the events are free though there are a few people need to pay to see – their website is at www.notpartof.org - quite a few good family friendly events – I’m performing at one event, a poetry show at The Green Room that I normally do anyway and I may be in a few others, such as the Flashmob Shakespeare (a chance to perform scenes and lines from Shakespeare in the ampitheatre outside the ANC (Saturday 4th July) and the poetry art crawl that starts at the Triangle. (Thursday 9th July 12-6) Both free events.

I’ve been following the post-election coup riots in Tehran closely, not through the BBC, or CNN, but on Twitter, where people have literally been sending out tweets from the front lines while being shot, - quite scary and extra-ordinary to have contact with people fighting in a real civil war situation. Talk of helicopters pouring acidic chemicals on the protesters, and dramatic footage of one girl dying with her family watching helplessly bring home a real situation – the government have tried blaming the whole conflict on the Twitter community which has meant being able to respond directly to them as well, which is very strange.
