Description:In 2002, I dragged my professor-husband and three kids from the Chicago suburbs to this 32-acre homestead on a creek in the middle of nowhere. As clueless city slickers, we make a lot of mistakes, learn a little, and have a lot of fun. If it sounds like a frontier version of Gilligan's Island ... well, sit right back and you'll hear a tale of goat birthing, gardening woes, coyote problems, food from the farm, housebuilding progress, and whatever happens to be happening around here.

Baby goats start arriving around Jan. 11. There are seven goats due in January and February, then we take a break until April when one goat is due. Another five or six will be kidding in May and June. I still have a goal of creating an educational slide show of a normal goat birth. This is what happened when I got this idea last spring:
