Venezuela News and Views
Unknowingly, I have written the diary of Venezuela slow descent into authoritarianism, the slow erosion of our liberties, the takeover of the country by a military caste, the surrendering of our soul to our inner demons.

Rafael Caldera

Dec 26, 2009
Rafael Caldera, twice president of Venezuela (69/74 and 94/99), passed away just before Christmas. I am no fan of the man those no eulogy from my side. I will only recognize in him his civilian values and that he managed successfully the first...

The 2009 Christmas post

Dec 23, 2009
And Christmas comes anew, though this year besides being grateful from being alive, there is not much Christmas spirit going on for me. But be it in my recovery bed or from what I can see from the country, there is a general depression and no mood for...

Daniel's unwilling hunger strike

Dec 21, 2009
Hunger strike has been a fashionable way to protest, from the students in front of the OAS offices in Caracas to the Saharoui activist in Lanzarote. Now I have a fine appreciation of what it is to be almost a week with barely a few liquids for...

Boyd versus Smartmatic: tracking down tools for fraud

Dec 7, 2009
Alek Boyd has become an investigative journalist now, with some interesting initial success. I saw him in a Mexican paper so I wrote him to let us know what he is up to. His replies follow. --------------- The world is becoming a small place for...

The Venezuelan banking crisis made simple (plus Chacon departure)

Dec 6, 2009
[UPDATED with Chacon exit] I should be writing extensive posts about the current Venezuelan so called banking crisis, but I think that 1) Miguel does a much better job than anyone in covering the events (including relevant links to his information...

I am not in exile, I´m stuck HERE with 26 Million more !!!! I´m one of the local folks that recurrently visit this blog. What I find more refreshing is the view from the provinces that in our day to day is left behind. There are two or more realities that are ignored from us in the cities and in the fight for surviving this horrendous regime, we simply ignore them many times over. Top notch ranking for Daniel´s blog and his accute and sharp accumen

I am a Venezuelan practically exiled in the United States driven not only by choice but by the present circumstances in Venezuela. When I discovered Daniel's blog a few years ago, I was impressed not only by his intelligent analysis of important events in Venezuela but also by his prose. His writing has continued to improve. It would not be a stretch to regard Daniel as one of the most authoritative bloggers currently in Venezuela. The fact that he continues to report from inside Venezuela in San Felipe, is a testament to his courage and devotion to our beloved Venezuela. Thank you so much for your work Daniel. I would love to have the opportunity to emulate your work in a not so distant future.

Venezuela News and Views is an example of the blogging medium at its very best. Daniel Duquenal's courageous, street-level reports of what is happening in the Cuba of our generation are deeply insightful and cogent. His hour-by-hour coverage of the Constitutional Referendum in December was some of the most mesmerizing reading I have ever enjoyed. If VNV is not a 10, I can't imagine what a 10 would be.
