New Winner of Jewelrygeek's Opal Gemstones

Dec 6, 2009
It's been nearly two weeks but the winner of the opal gemstones giveaway has not contacted me. I've left a notice on my blog homepage and mentioned in another post. Nothing. So someone else is going to be the lucky winner of these beautiful ...

How to Ream Pearls Without a Reamer

Dec 6, 2009
Have you ever noticed how small the holes are in drilled pearls?  It must be because many people use needle and thread for knotting pearls. I recently wanted to wire some lovely pearls with embedded Swarovski crystals using 22G wire which I thought was...

Turning Mud into Gemstones

Dec 5, 2009
Someone recently asked me if one could make ceramic beads. Not only is it possible, you'd be "turning mud into gemstones" like Jennie Lorette Keats of JLK Handcrafted Jewelry. Jennie is a passionate potter and silver smith who makes gorgeous jewelry...

It's okay to change your mind!

Dec 4, 2009
One thing I really like about jewelry making is we can all change our minds about a design and redo it. That happened to Brenda. She made a bold red necklace at a workshop quite a while ago. She returned to another with a black focal she had...

Online sales up on Black Friday - Heat mapping sales transactions

Dec 4, 2009
Many online jewelry artisans offered Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales last week. I hope they did well because the stats show more people than ever are shopping online. They prefer to avoid the long line ups and people jams at brick-and- mortar...

The Beading Gem's Journal is truely fantastic!! Pearl's writing is meticulously clear & concise, yet warm in tone. She has a flawless instinct for just the right amount of information with every post. Her inexhaustibly informative topics cover a 'perfect' range. She stays on-topic for those of us love-struck with jewellery, but still keeps posts diverse and interesting. I LOVE the historical pieces, but have often been helped more than she might imagine by her instructive/creative idea posts. Some days she brings us things so 'out-there' I'd never have imagined them, and at others she brings us back to the simplicity of a student's first bead creation. Somehow she manages to do such a great job, time after time (I'm sure it's not ALL she has to do!). I'd rate her blog an 11 if I could.

This blog is one of my absolute favorites. I love the mix of topics related to jewelry and jewelry making. I especially like the historical insight that is actually really, really interesting and sometimes better than the modern soap opera!

This is one of the most informative jewelry blogs out there in blog land. Every trip to Pearl's blog is a learning experience. She researches her topics exceptionally well and is always posting something different or surprisingly unique. I like to visit her site to learn about new jewelry artists, techniques and for well written overviews about history of various jewelry mediums.
