Great Expectations But Also a Golden Opportunity

Nov 11, 2008
It was just a few days ago (Nov. 6th) that I titled my post “Great Expectations”–beating The Economist magazine to it! (That’s the cover of the current issue, pictured above.) The point of my Great Expectations post was that...

How Deficit Spending Can Be Fiscally Responsible

Oct 18, 2008
I’ve written so much on this topic over the past few weeks, but I’ll say it again: fiscal responsibility is a much broader concept than having a goal of a balanced budget.

CBO Explains Why It's Hard to Know How Much Taxpayers Will Pay

Sep 25, 2008
Yesterday the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) director, Peter Orszag, testified before the House Budget Committee on the “Federal Responses to Market Turmoil,” focusing on the Treasury proposal for a $700 billion rescue plan.

Would You Work Harder If You Were Paid Less?

Jul 29, 2008
Yesterday’s Washington Post contained an interesting “Department of Human Behavior” column by Shankar Vedantam, called “When Play Becomes Work.”

EconomistMom Says You Gotta Go See This Movie!

Nov 30, 1999
I have mentioned the movie I.O.U.S.A. before here on this blog, starting with my “about” page in discussing the new and improved (almost totally hip?) Concord Coalition, and then again in mid-June when the movie was shown at a DC-area film...

Snow Day 's No Day to Stop Working on Health Reform

Dec 19, 2009

The Current Debt Is Inherited, But Future Deficits Are Chosen

Dec 17, 2009
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities issued this report this week, which claims that “President Obama Largely Inherited Today’s Huge Deficits.”  The headline chart is shown above, which proves the point that President Bush’s deficit financed tax...

Putting the Teeth Back Into the Medicare Commission?

Dec 16, 2009
Ezra Klein observed this morning that the Rockefeller-Whitehouse-Lieberman amendment on the Senate health reform bill puts some “teeth” back into the Medicare commission: Joe Lieberman’s successful effort to tank the public option and Medicare buy-in...

Are the Fiscally Conservative Democrats Scared or Just Tired?

Dec 15, 2009
I find this story in today’s Washington Post troubling, because it contains the names of quite a few Blue Dog Democrats or otherwise fiscally-responsible Democrats I’ve worked for at the House Budget Committee and House Ways and Means Committee.  From...

I do enjoy blogs who "speak with facts" and Economist Mom certainly fits this bill.

Outstanding blog. "Must read" information and commentary for anyone concerned about America's long-term fiscal imbalance...which should be everyone. EconomistMom cuts through all the political spin from partisans of both right and left, AND makes the relevant economic concepts understandable to non-economists.

Fantastic blog, with sources cited and links to articles. Great analysis, but presented in lay terms. Good for the beginning and practicing Economoist.

Disappointing lack of economic rigor. If you're looking for a mom's scatterbrain thoughts on politics this is the blog for you. If you're looking for good economic analysis of economic issues, look elsewhere.
