features, suggest new features, or just to discuss anything you want.
-
Nov 16 - When you view a list of somebody's ratings (including your own)
sorted by the time the ratings were entered,
it groups ratings by date. This is a feature I added a couple months ago. However, until now it
was using the local time of my server in California, so the dates could be off for you, especially
if you don't even live in North America. Well, that is all fixed now! The dates are now
displayed relative to the timezone of the person whose ratings list you are viewing.

Nov 15 - About 8 months ago, Facebook updated their Terms of Use for application developers to
state that no alcohol-related content may be shown in an application to users not old enough to
purchase alcohol, and applications specifically about alcohol, such as this one, must be completely
hidden from these underage users. However, I was unable to comply with this for many months
because once I tried enabling the restrictions, Facebook started to restrict even users who were
old enough but had chosen to hide their birth year, which makes up nearly 50% of the app's users!
However, I have just discovered that they finally fixed this issue, so I am going to comply. Some
time around Jan 1, 2010, I will re-enable this restriction, and underage users will no longer be
able to access this application. For now, I've made the app display a warning at the top of every
page if Facebook is telling my app that you are underage. If you are not actually underage, please
let me know right away so I can figure out what's wrong!
-
Nov 7 - I've re-enabled the page that lets you
import your ratings from ratebeer.com.
-
Oct 2 - The RateBeer Facebook application (which is not affiliated with RateBeer.com) has just been
renamed to BeerSeek. That's all I've changed so far, but
I really can't wait until I have the time to do more
with this.

Sep 19 - Yeeargh! Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day, mateys! To celebrate (well, not really), I've
once again (supposedly) improved the search feature. It now be faster, it now be more accurate,
and it now will hopefully help ye find the beers ye actually be searching for. Unfortunately,
it no longer includes the brewer name, brewer location and style name in the search, nor does it
attempt to correct yer misspellin's, but yer captain will restore that functionality as soon as
possible. If ye have any problems with the new search feature, then ye can go walk the plank!
Err, I mean, just let yer captain know on the ol' discussion board. In the meantime, drink up, me
hearties, yo ho!

Sep 5 - When you view a list of somebody's ratings
(including your own),
the page now groups the ratings by date rated. The dates are based upon the time zone in which I
reside (PDT), so some of them may be incorrect for you, but I will eventually let you specify
what time zone you are in so that the correct dates will always be displayed for you.
-
Aug 29 - If you are having trouble finding a beer in this app even though you can find it on
ratebeer.com, you can now copy the beer's ratebeer.com URL
(e.g., http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/arrogant-bastard-ale/1315/) into the search box in this app,
and you'll find it.
-
Aug 24 - In preparation for separating this app from Facebook and renaming it to
beerseek.com (which will probably happen in the next couple
months), I just signed up for a Twitter account:
@beerseek.
-
Aug 22 - Seasonal beers now show the season that they are available on the beer detail page between
the beer's name and style. For example, see
Samuel Adams Winter Lager.
-
Aug 18 - I'm working on making the mobile version of this app more useful by using your current
location to help you find beers at nearby stores, restaurants, bars, etc. Unfortunately for now,
because of stupid Facebook limitations and restrictions, this feature is only available to iPhone
3G/3GS users who have launched the application via the Bookmark/Home Screen Icon. If you happen to
live in San Luis Obispo, CA, or Seattle, WA, please try it out! In the next several months I am
going to split off the app from Facebook and make it much better, including making it more geared
toward finding beers near you. This redesigned app will even sport a new name: beerseek.com.
-
Jul 28 - I recently did some work on the long awaited
Google Maps integration feature,
and though it will still be at least several months before it is ready, some good came of this
preliminary work. I added a new page that lets you view a list of beers served/distributed at a
particular bar/restaurant/store/etc. I haven't yet added the ability for anybody but me to create
beer lists in the app, but if you happen to be so lucky to live in Seattle, WA, (as I will in just
a few days) then you can check out the beer lists for
Tap House Grill Seattle and
Brouwer's Cafe.
-
Jun 24 - I have improved the search function so that it can handle misspellings better.
-
Jun 22 - I added a new section to each Beer Detail Page:
"People who like/dislike this beer describe it as ...".
-
Jun 21 - This app is two years old today! Woohoo!
-
Jun 16 - I finally graduated from college this past Saturday, so now I hope to have a lot more time
to work on this application! Stay tuned.
-
May 28 - I've improved the way that the app determines your "favorite" styles and breweries, so it
should be a little more accurate now. I haven't yet added the capability for you to edit these
favorite styles and breweries (if you don't agree with what the app has guessed), but that will
hopefully come pretty soon, especially since it is
one of the most requested features.
-
May 26 - If you check the "Search within my ratings" box when searching for
beers, it will search within your rating comments as well as the beer names.
-
Apr 24 - Search for beers by barcode. Just type any 6, 8 or 12-digit UPC barcode that
you see on a beer bottle or case, and the app will attempt to find it for you. (Unfortunately
it doesn't really work all that often, but that isn't really my fault.)
-
Jan 27 - Beer detail pages, like
this one for Guinness Draught,
now show the number of people who have it in their fridge/want list.
-
Jan 1 - In the Suggestion Box,
you can now add your comments to each feature. I've also added a new
Discussion Board for you to discuss whatever you
want, including new feature suggestions.
